Flying To Reveal Innovation Award Winner at Oshkosh

We’ll hand over the first-ever Flying Innovation Award trophy on the opening evening of EAA AirVenture on July 24.

The first and only award created to recognize the most significant innovation in general aviation from the preceding year is about to be revealed.

Flying magazine Editor-in-Chief Stephen Pope will hand over the inaugural Flying Innovation Award trophy at an evening event on the shores of Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, at the start of EAA AirVenture on July 24.

The list of nominees for the prize are the recipients of 2016 Flying Editors’ Choice Awards, one of which will be crowned the winner of the overall 2017 Flying Innovation Award, created to honor the hard work of the individuals and teams responsible for bringing exceptional new products and technologies to the general aviation community.

“Quite frankly, there is no award like this in aviation,” Pope said. “Some organizations bestow honors on people or for activities across broad cross-sections of aerospace, while others limit their awards by geography. With the Flying Innovation Award, we’re recognizing the most significant innovation of the year across all of general aviation, anywhere in the world.”

The nominees for this year’s prize include CubCrafters for the XCub taildragger; Dynon Avionics for the D10A flight display; Garmin for the G5 display; Honda Aircraft for the HondaJet; Piper Aircraft for the M600 turboprop and SiriusXM for the SXAR1 portable satellite weather data receiver.

Over the next several weeks we will be highlighting the innovative attributes of the six finalists’ products. Once the winner is named at Oshkosh, we’ll immediately share the news on our website and via social media.
