Case Study: Different Types of Ground Power Units at Airports

Advancing GSE for a Low-Carbon Future

In recent years, demand for sustainable ground support equipment has grown strongly. AEME GSE, a major supplier in the Asia-Pacific region, has long been committed to supporting airports in reducing emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and controlling operational costs. With 20 years of R&D expertise and experience across major airports, AEME GSE now offers a comprehensive range of GPU products and solutions, supporting partners in green innovation and accelerating global expansion.————————————
EcoTug 90/180 Mobile eGPU: Innovative Battery Technology Ensures Safety
Beijing Capital International Airport

As part of its efforts to promote green, low-carbon, and sustainable operations, Beijing Capital International Airport has introduced AEME GSE ground power units. This includes the AEME EcoTug 90/180 kVA, a battery-powered mobile GPU. AEME GSE first introduced electric mobile ground power units in 2017. As the latest generation eGPU, EcoTug integrates advanced LFP batteries with cutting-edge power electronics and control technologies, backed by strong R&D and a mature supply chain. This combination delivers higher efficiency and superior reliability.

Safety is also the top priority for this battery-powered solution. Each EcoTug features both battery and system-level safety systems. The battery cell includes automated fire suppression, while a product-level fire protection system provides an additional layer of security. The system also offers full-process operational monitoring and diagnostics, allowing rapid and precise fault detection.

Coupled with a cloud platform, AEME GSE provides comprehensive digital management. This improves maintenance efficiency and delivers intelligent, high-efficiency energy solutions to the airport.

S400 GPU: LVRTech™ for Consistent Stability
Dalian International Airport

Dalian International Airport serves over 17 million passengers annually. Given the airport's requirement for extremely high efficiency from its ground power units, AEME GSE's S400 ground power units provide reliable support for apron operations. These units meet the airport's requirements for aircraft ground power performance.

The system uses advanced technologies, including low-voltage ride-through (LVRTech™), space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM), voltage decoupling control, and dynamic voltage compensation. It delivers stable voltage output with low distortion. The system maintains reliable power under unbalanced loads and protects connected equipment.

Solar+GPU+Micro Grid: Sustainable Innovation
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport

In 2017, AEME developed and deployed its first solar+aircraft ground power solution at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. The solution integrates PV systems, GPUs and smart energy management system to maximize utilization of sustainable energy and improve overall efficiency. Between 2017 and 2025, the system has reduced jet fuel consumption by 20,100 tons. It has also maintained a zero-accident record for eight years, earning deep trust from clients.

This project represents the first integration of green energy with solid-state ground power units at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, a hub serving more than 40 million passengers annually. Over this 8-year period, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and AEME GSE have worked closely together, supporting the airport's transition toward low-carbon operations in line with the vision of a green airport.
