BQXL: Brooklyn Queens Cross Line

New York City is expected to exceed 9 million residents by 2030.

How can urban design help a city like New York that already has an overburdened real estate market accommodate this level of growth? To show how, Gensler has developed a design concept called the BQXL that leverages 15 miles of underutilized freight corridor to connect neighborhoods spanning from Queens to Brooklyn and provide easier access to the subway lines along the way. This visionary project will turn existing infrastructure into a community asset and an opportunity for new open space, community development and enhanced inter-borough connectivity.
