Augmented reality app for children launches at Heathrow

Heathrow Airport has launched interactive augmented reality app Around the World with Mr. Adventure as part of its summer season offerings.

The busiest departure day so far is expected to be July 21, with 131,546 passengers traveling through the airport. Over the school summer break, 35,000 passengers with children are expected to arrive at the airport.

The app aims to entertain children as they navigate Heathrow’s terminals, helping Mr Men and Little Miss characters Mr. Adventure and Little Miss Explorer find five hidden badges.

The child’s digital device will identify when a child has reached each badge’s hiding place and will play a 3D animated video, enabling the child to photograph or video themselves with the characters. Once they have found all five digital badges in the game, they can collect their own limited edition iron-on badges from information desks around the terminals.

The characters themselves will be making appearances in all terminals from July 13 to September 10, speaking with children and helping them find the badges. Heathrow will also be hosting craft activities, workshops and offering themed biscuits to passengers.

Iona Harper, senior experience manager at Heathrow Airport, said, “As summer sees a greater number of families visit Heathrow, we want to ensure they receive the best possible start to their holiday adventures. The Mr. Adventure app is a great, fun experience for Heathrow’s tiniest travelers, encouraging discovery for the next generation of explorers.”
