Enhanced business cabin features on SilkAir’s first Boeing 737 Max 8

The first of 37 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft ordered by SilkAir has been delivered, and will commence service on a new route to Hiroshima, Japan, on October 30, 2017.

Key features of the Boeing Sky Interior include sculpted sidewalls and window reveals, and LED lighting. The aircraft has a 156-seat configuration – 12 in business and 144 in economy. SilkAir has enhanced its business offering by increasing seat pitch from 39in to 49in (a 25% increase) and seat recline from 8in to 12in. The seat features a USB and three-pin charging port, and a side pocket for personal storage. The airline also offers illycaffè coffee, brewed on board, in this section.

In economy, seats feature a “sleeker and more ergonomic” design, in aqua and light gray. Seatback tablet and phone holders, as well as in-seat USB charging ports, enable passengers to make the most of the Studio IFE service. This now offers more than 100 Hollywood and international films and 40 TV shows, as well as music.

Catering on the Hiroshima route will include Japanese dishes including chicken curry don, mixed flavored rice with Tsukune chicken balls and Omu rice.

The regional airline expects to receive two more Max 8s by the end of 2017. “The new Max 8 enables us to offer customers access to new and exciting destinations and paves the way for a new phase of growth,” said Foo Chai Woo, chief executive of SilkAir.
