PRINCESS JULIANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPENS NEW SELF-SERVICE EGATES

Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) has enhanced its growing reputation as a regional pioneer in the adoption of new technology with the installation of six self-service eGates for departing passengers.

The gateway, located on the Caribbean island of St Maarten, has introduced the technology as part of its ongoing improvements designed to streamline identification processes and subsequently enhance passenger flows.

The project is a joint initiative by SXM and the Immigration and Border Protection Services, a department within the Ministry of Justice of St Maarten, which claims that it is strongly committed to the "modernisation of airport processes and to the improvement of the customer experience" at the airport.

Vision-Box has supplied the new self-service eGates.

As a result, departing travellers simply have to scan their Bar Coded Boarding Pass (BCBP) at the self-service eGates prior to entering departure hall.

According to the airport, the eGates are integrated with the common-use infrastructure of the airport, offering a very fast security control procedure.

SXM's deputy managing director, Larry Donker, says: “SXM Airport is proud of this accomplishment, which is another successful milestone.

"Automation has, and continues to revolutionise, the aviation industry. With self-service solutions being the new standard in the industry, SXM Airport is making leaps and bounds towards its vision of offering passengers an experience that will move them”.

Two years ago the airport became one of the first in the region to introduce a new IT system designed – developed by Concessionaire Analyzer+ (CA+) – to help it better manage and maximise its non-aeronautical revenues.
