CONFERENCE SPEAKER: Swedavia to introduce automated security gates at airports across Sweden

Swedish airport operator Swedavia is introducing automated entry gates at the security checkpoints across the country. Automation and digitization are high on the operator’s agenda, with the aim of reducing passenger wait times and optimizing terminal space.

Last week, Göteborg Landvetter Airport had its first automated entry gate installed,with more set to follow shortly. This week, Stockholm Arlanda Airport introduced automated entry gates in the main security checkpoint in Terminal 5. Gates will also be rolled out at other Swedavia airports throughout the year.

Swedavia has already installed automated check-in and bag-drop kiosks, and according to the operator, now has the most automated bag drops in the world. Passengers flying from Åre Östersund Airport in northern Sweden can even drop off their skis in the automated bag drop.

Automated check-in machines are also located at a number of hotels in Åre, which means that passengers can print bag tags and fasten them to their baggage before they even get to the airport, further enhancing the passenger experience.

Elisabeth Axtelius, director of aviation business for Swedavia Airports, said, “Self-service solutions are something that our airlines and that we want to introduce in order to simplify travel for passengers and increase the efficiency of our airlines. The new services are in line with what our airlines and passengers want.”

As well as hosting this year's event, Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO of Swedavia, will be speaking on Day 1 of Passenger Terminal Conference, which takes place in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 20-22, 2018. More than 7,000 attendees from more than 100 countries are expected at Passenger Terminal Expo and Conference, which boasts more than 285 exhibitors and 375 expert speakers.
