South African Airways restarts B737 freighter services

South African Airways Cargo (SAA Cargo) has restarted Boeing 737-300 freighter services which were temporarily suspended while the carrier undertook aircraft maintenance to be in compliance with regulatory flying requirements.

The freighters were withdrawn from service last week until SAA Cargo was able to install software updates for the aircraft's Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems to make them fully compliant with regulations by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).

A spokesperson for the airline said: "We resubmitted a revised motivation to SACAA and our application for exemption was successful.

"We were able reinstate our freighters and they started operating from last week (Friday) in the domestic market and services resumed on Saturday for the regional (Africa) market."
