Mirus to open Malaysia facility

Mirus Aircraft Seating announced today at the Farnborough Air Show the first of its international expansion plans, with a Southeast Asian subsidiary being established in Malaysia.

The new, wholly-owned subsidiary, Mirus Aircraft Seating Malaysia SDN BHD, will initially act as an after sales service center, providing technical support to AirAsia as well as future customers in the region. Long term plans call for the Malaysian base to become a duplicate production facility and center of excellence for projects in Southeast Asia that the company said would further improve lead times and lower costs.

Mirus formed the company following discussions with Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). In April, Mirus announced that its launch customer for the new Hawk short-range economy seat was Malaysian airline AirAsia. Mirus has retrofitted eight existing A320’s and the airline's future A320neo aircraft will have the Hawk seat. AirAsia has ordered more than 300 shipsets of the Mirus Hawk.

“I’m really happy we’re able to announce this significant milestone at Farnborough,” said Phil Hall, CEO at Mirus. “It’s an exciting new step in the Mirus story and will demonstrate to customers our commitment to providing them with outstanding support”.

Mirus is at Farnborough Air Show with the Hawk seats displayed as part of the MATRADE Malaysian Pavilion (Hall 3/D70).
