Wizz Air to open new base

Amidst the worldwide pandemic frenzy, Hungary based low-cost carrier Wizz Air announced the scheduled opening of a new base in Ukraine.

In addition to its existing base in Kyiv, the carrier plans on opening another one in Lviv on July 1, 2020. For starters, the airline will have one Airbus A320 aircraft parked at Danylo Halytskyi International Airport (LWO).

Together with the new base, the airline initiates five fresh routes: to Billund (Denmark), Tallinn (Estonia), Lisbon (Portugal), Hamburg (Germany), and Szczecin (Poland). The flights will presumably start from July 1, 2020, based on the ticket information on the Wizz Air website.

The carrier has already reinstated some of its operations from London on May 1st, 2020. The flights, available for passengers who embark on essential journeys, will carry them from London to Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, and Israel.

The airline rolled out new safety standards. The measures included regular cleaning, and night-time disinfection of planes, mandatory masks for cabin crew and passengers, obligatory seat distancing, sanitizing pads as handouts to travelers. Besides, things like handling bookings online and contactless payment during onboard shopping are strongly recommended.

Wizz Air is also set to open some flights from Abu Dhabi starting from June 3, 2020. The plan announced back in December, presupposed that joint venture with Abu Dhabi state holding company ADQ will start flights to Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa. In mid-April 2020, the purple-livery airline confirmed that Wizz Air Abu Dhabi operations launch was “progressing in line with the initial timeline.”
