HNTB's Peter Aarons Appointed to Business Information Technology Committee Steering Group for Airports Council International – North America

Peter Aarons, HNTB Corp. West Division aviation director and associate vice president, has been appointed by Airports Council International – North America to the 2017 Business Information Technology Committee Steering Group.

Bringing more than 26 years of industry experience, Aarons joins a distinguished group of aviation professionals in leading the ACI-NA committee that addresses significant issues affecting airports. The committee also provides policy recommendations that strengthen the ability of airports to serve their passengers, customers and communities. A member of ACI-NA since 1996, Aarons has served as a theme manager for airport terminals and as an associates representative on the BIT committee over the past decade.

“I’m pleased to enhance my involvement with ACI-NA in my new role on the Business Information Technology Committee Steering Group,” Aarons said. “Our group’s most important task is to increase awareness, share data and conduct research on global industry developments to identify technologies that can enhance efficiency and reduce costs for airports, as well as provide input on policy and regulatory matters on behalf of ACI-NA members and associates.”

The BIT Steering Group provides leadership to the BIT committee officers. It defines the year’s work plan and themes, including emerging technologies that can enhance existing systems and provide improvements to better serve the airport system and the needs of customers.

Committee focus areas include: airport information management systems, private and public communication services, intranet and internet computer networking, system design and application of new technology. Members prepare congressional testimony, respond to regulatory proposals and develop national and international policies for airport operators. The committee is represented on industry and governmental communications and IT task forces.

In his role as West Division aviation director, Aarons leads the development and implementation of the aviation strategy from HNTB’s Los Angeles office in the region, where he develops targeted client service action plans, project pursuits and industry representation. Key projects under Aarons’ leadership include the Common Use Infrastructure and Checked Baggage Inspection System for the Terminal Development Program at San Diego International Airport; Landside Access Modernization Program for Los Angeles World Airports; and the Utilities Infrastructure Master Plan for San Francisco International Airport.
