SSP wins contract to operate six airport lounges in Malaysia

The lounge services at the two airports will include a new variety of food and beverage offerings.

UK-based SSP Group has secured a contract from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to take over the operations of six new MAHB airport lounges at two airports.

These airports are Kuching International Airport (KCH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at Terminal 1 (KLIA1) and Terminal 2 (KLIA2).

Three new lounges will be situated at KLIA1, with SSP assuming operations of two First and Business lounges, along with the International Airside Loyalty lounge.

The company will be responsible for managing the International Airside Loyalty Lounge in Gate L and the International Airside Loyalty Lounge in the satellite building at KLIA2.

At KCH, SSP will take over the operations of the Domestic Airside Loyalty Lounge.

SSP Malaysia, a joint venture (JV) between SSP Group and Travel Food Services (TFS), will operate the new business.

Travel Food Services has also partnered with SSP in India, where it operates 20 lounges in major travel hubs, including the GVK lounge in Mumbai.

SSP Malaysia stated that it is aiming to improve its latest lounge offering with a new range of local and international food and beverage offerings.

SSP Asia Pacific CEO Mark Angela said: “Our detailed knowledge of this market and strong track record as operators, plus a phased investment plan aligned to the return of travellers mean that our lounge offerings will be perfectly aligned to the needs of our guests in each of these locations.

“We’re looking forward to working with MAHB on these exciting plans to provide a quality airport experience for travellers, while also increasing our presence in this important market.”

In April, MAHB revealed its plans to invest $315m (MYR1.3bn) for the redevelopment of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport) (SZB) in Subang, Malaysia.

The funding would enable the transformation of Subang Airport into an aviation hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
