AERO 2023 showcases innovative and sustainable aviation

The aviation trade show AERO 2023 (April 19-22, 2023) will again be the most important meeting place for innovations in the industry next year.

At AERO, exhibitors will show visitors their latest products and services with which they are shaping the future of aviation. For the first time, experts will meet at AERO 2023 at the AERO Hydrogen Summit symposium to exchange ideas on hydrogen as the aviation fuel of the future.

More than ever before, AERO Friedrichshafen is focusing on sustainability and all its aspects. The show thus remains true to its maxims and accompanies the industry in meeting the challenges of the future.

In 2023, the AERO Sustainable Trail will once again identify all exhibitors who are committed to sustainability in aviation. The spectrum of products and services ranges from propulsion systems to fuels, new aircraft types, drones and flight planning software that enables optimized routing.

Tobias Bretzel, AERO show director at trade show organiser fairnamic, said: "The future of aviation is extremely exciting, but also sustainable. The innovative power of the industry is enormous and AERO visitors can look forward to seeing many 'green' technologies in the exhibition halls and learning about them in numerous conferences. Ecology and economy often go hand in hand: electric flight, for example, makes flying not only low-emission and low-noise, but also significantly cheaper."

For the first time, AERO 2023 will feature a full-day symposium (April 21, 2023) on the use of hydrogen as an aviation propulsion system. Even though global aviation is responsible for less than 3% of worldwide CO2 emissions, the industry is committed to becoming CO2 neutral. The AERO Hydrogen Summit on April 21, 2023, will focus on the practical use of this energy source. One of the solutions is to use hydrogen by direct injection in jet turbines. Another option is to generate electricity to power electric motors through a chemical conversion process via fuel cells.

At the AERO Hydrogen Summit, research centres, universities and industry representatives will provide answers as to how and whether the various systems can be installed in small aircraft, helicopters and transport aircraft. The transition to a CO2-free future is already in full swing. Electric flight pioneers have already made contributions to this and demonstrated that it is possible to fly around the world using only solar energy. These developments are continuing in follow-up projects that will be presented at the symposium.

As an integral part of AERO 2023, the e-flight-expo will bring together exhibitors from the field of sustainable aviation in Hall A7 and highlight the technological progress and change in this area through the growing diversity of exhibitors. With Pipistrel (Textron eAviation), BRM AERO and H55, the DLR institutes INK (Information Center for Small Aircraft Technologies) from Aachen and the Institute for Electrified Aircraft Propulsion from Cottbus, the CELLSIUS eSling from the ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and the French manufacturer VoltAero, well-known players from electric flight have already registered for AERO 2023.

Another highlight will take place immediately before the actual start of the trade show on April 18, 2023: With the AERO e-flight record, AERO will organize an electric flight world record attempt together with futurologist, engineer and pilot Morell Westermann to show that the future of sustainable aviation has already arrived in flying reality.
