LG’s airport guide robot previewed at CES

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, LG Electronics is showcasing a groundbreaking new line-up of intelligent robots. Previewed alongside the latest flatscreen TVs and smartphones, these robots represent the company’s latest innovations in terms of artificial intelligence and developments in the IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystem.

Among its creations is the Airport Guide Robot, which will be in service at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport later in the year. This intelligent information assistant can answer a traveler’s questions in four languages – English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. By simply scanning a ticket, a passenger will be provided with information about the flight’s boarding time and gate, plus the weather at the destination. The robot can provide directions to other amenities, estimated walking times, and can even escort the traveler if they are still unsure about where to go.

LG has also launched the Airport Cleaning Robot – a super-sized robot vacuum cleaner with a large-capacity dust canister, and multiple brushes and cleaning modes. It will use sensors and cameras to ensure safe, efficient cleaning, avoiding obstacles and passengers. With simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology, the vacuum robot is always aware of its location.
