BPU 400: Battery-Powered Ground Power Unit Enters Field Testing
RECK SOLAR & ELME Elektromechanik is developing the BPU 400, a new high-performance battery-powered ground power unit for aviation applications. Following initial testing at the manufacturer’s facility, the system will be tested by selected customers directly on aircraft under real operating conditions.
The increasing electrification of ground operations is opening up new possibilities for the aviation industry. Mobile, battery-powered power supply systems can provide a flexible alternative wherever fixed infrastructure is unavailable or difficult to access.
With the BPU 400, RECK SOLAR & ELME is developing a solution for demanding applications. The system is designed to provide 400 amps of continuous current and up to 1,200 amps of peak current. This makes it suitable for applications such as maintenance work, avionics testing and other operations requiring a reliable power supply directly at the aircraft.
The BPU 400 is currently in the testing phase. Initial tests are being carried out by the manufacturer under controlled conditions. The next step will be field testing with selected customers, who will use the power unit directly on their aircraft.
These practical tests are an important part of the development process. Feedback from different operating environments will help evaluate the performance of the BPU 400 in everyday use and identify opportunities for further optimisation.
