Aircraft recovery operations and COVID19: decline or not?

While the COVID19 pandemic is still affecting the recovery of the global aviation industry globally, the number of incidents with disabled aircraft has remained steady with on average two incidents per week in the first six months of 2021. On average, the 58 reported incidents until 30 June 2021 closed down runways or airports for sixteen hours. This is a slight increase from previous years.

With the strongly reduced number of operated flights, a strong decrease in incidents with disabled aircraft would be a logical consequence. However, the statistics since March 2020 do not show a significant decrease in incidents. We registered a decrease from an average of three incidents per week to an average of two incidents per week. These statistics show that the probability of a disabled aircraft at your airline or airport is not to be underestimated. It also shows that preparation is key.

Preparation for these types of incidents is therefore inevitable. Ask yourself the following questions:
