Case Study: Shenling PCA Units Accelerate Decarbonization at Xiangyang Airport
Driving 100% PCA Utilization and Over 1,000 Tonnes of Annual CO₂ Emission Reductions
Xiangyang Airport in Hubei Province, China, has fully deployed ground support systems across its boarding bridges to reduce aircraft emissions and energy consumption. The systems, including Shenling PCA units, provide conditioned air and ground power to parked aircraft, reducing reliance on onboard APUs, which consume aviation fuel and generate emissions and noise.
All boarding bridges at Terminal 2 are now equipped with ground support systems, and the airport actively promotes their use among airlines. In 2021, Shenling PCA units supported 946 aircraft movements, achieving a 100% PCA connection rate under the airport’s decarbonization policy.
With full PCA deployment, Xiangyang Airport is expected to reduce more than 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, while lowering fuel consumption, noise, and local air pollution, supporting its transition toward greener and more sustainable airport operations.
